The first in my cozy mystery series, FLIPPIN’ THE BIRD, is out now, and probably already due for a cover change, so you can look for that coming soon.
Today, I thought I would write a little bit about one of the unique businesses that is a brief focus in Flippin’ The Bird.
Many, many years ago, my sweet parents started a little antique shop. At least, that was their vision for their retirement. What began with them renting one room in a little cinderblock building, snow-balled into buying the building, then adding an upstairs, then adding a barn… It’s been twenty-five years of being a part of their venture, at first as a passive participant, but in recent years, as the part owner/operator of what has turned into a 6,000 sq. ft. antique mini-mall with over 50 different dealers! And that’s what my Mom and Dad called retirement.
Now, retirement has truly come to pass. I helped to shift the business to a cooperative, then we passed the passion on to the many hands that made it such a success.
Anyway, you can get a tiny glimpse of the antique mall in one of the settings in the latest cozy mystery in the form of “Skye’s the Limit Antiques and Curiosities”. But beware. Skye is finding things in her antique shop that only the daughter of antique dealers with a very active imagination could turn up.
Happy Reading. Happy ‘Tiquing.
